Celebrate Imbolc (a Celtic festival commemorating the very beginning of spring) with Brizeus (bagpipes, drums, percussive strings), Red Wind (Celtic Indie Folk) and a set of guest performers from Asheville's Celtic music community!
7pm Friday Feb. 3rd at Firestorm Cafe & Books $5-25 suggested donation no one turned away.
Join us for an evening of soul-shaking bagpipes, heartbreaking revolutionary ballads and some good old fashioned Celtic-ified rock and roll. This multi-handcrafted one-night-only show will include an enthralling mix of creatively delivered old and new tunes performed by just a few members of the rich community of Celtic musicians based in and around Asheville.
The evening will begin at 7pm with a showcase of local Celtic music and dance performers including: Heartwood, Sean Sutherland, Will Byers, Charlie Wallin, Holly O'Brien, Doug Murray, Shannon Seymour, Ryan McGrath, Fox Black and Linda Go.
Following the showcase, Celtic Indie Folk band Red Wind will make their debut performance. Red Wind is vocalist / bodhran player Kila Donovan, ballad singer Saro Lynch-Thomason, former Strike Anywhere guitarist Matthew Sherwood and Jon Hyers on sorcery with the flute and whistle. Dynamic, percussive, harmonious and fiery, Red Wind delivers a powerful blend of traditional and original music that will probably make your life more interesting.
The evening will conclude with a set from Brizeus, a group of pipers, drummers and string players performing Celtic, historic European, and original folk dance music mostly at outdoor festivals. This evening EJ Jones, Sean Sutherland and Dave Machek performing.
